!BIOGRAPHY: "As best as I can discern James M. Whipple left Otsego Co. to Boonville, NY, c. 1847 (source: 1855 NY State Census) Shortly after his marriage to Mary Jane Ward he moved to Albany, NY and worked closely with Squire Whipple constructing bridges. He formed a partnership with his uncle c. 1854 and they were given many contracts for constructing bridges over the new enlarged Erie Canal. Squire became disillusioned with the State c. 1860 and the partnership ended with John M. going back to Boonville." --P. Ward
